How To Clean Bras

Bras are something that every woman has to have. It would be great if we could go around town wearing our favorite shirts and not having to worry about what style we should be wearing at the time and whether or not it fits well on us. These are a must and for some of us can be quite expensive.

The best way to keep from spending a fortune is to maintain the bras that we have right now. This is especially true for the ones made with lace and soft silky material. If you are going to spend $50 to $100 for a single bra than you should know that sometimes throwing them in the washer machine is going to get them ruined.

Hand Wash

Your everyday bra can easily be put into the washer machine with other like colors. From there you can let it air dry or you can transfer it into the dryer. However, your more expensive, fancy bras need to be hand washed. The washer machine is too rough for the expensive materials they are made out of and can tear them to pieces.

Fill the sink with gentle detergent and warm water. You could also use liquid hand soap or shampoo. You only need enough to get it cleaned. You can use either cold or warm water – but never hot water. This will damage the elastic in the band and keep it from fitting you properly.

When you have properly scrubbed them (using your hands only) hang them up over your shower curtain rod, on a drying rack, or outside on a clothesline. Do not wring them dry – but allow them to drip dry. When you wring them you risk them losing their form.

Machine Wash

Hand washing is the best way to clean them – but it is not the only way. It is not recommended that you put them in the machine. However, not all of us have the time to hand wash them. You can purchase bra mesh laundry bags that will protect them from the roughness of the machine and keep the material from being torn.

Place the bra in the bag and put it in with like colors. Set the machine to the delicate mode and make sure that you have clasped the bra together. This keeps it from getting tangled with the mesh in the bag.

After it is washed take it out and hang it up over the shower curtain rod, drying rack, or clothes line. The dryer is still not the best place to use for your expensive bras.
